PAPER PLANNING VS DIGITAL PLANNING

Lately I’ve been thinking about where I want my planner habit to go.  I have used paper planners for years.  Specifically, the Me and My Big Ideas Happy Planner.  It’s what I’m using now.  But I have been led astray into using a digital planner also.  There are many advantages and disadvantages to using each.  So, let’s go over some of them.

Paper Planner

  1. I like being able to use some of the amazing stickers and inserts that you can find.  Not just the great Happy Planner sticker books.
  2. There is an abundance of choices on sites like Etsy.
  3. There are also several good inserts on there as well. But then there is the additional cost of all these extras as well.

Digital Planner

I use mine on my I Pad.  It does take awhile to get use to using it.

  1. But you can do the same things (with a little more work) as you can with the paper planner.
  2. The biggest advantage is saving the trees by not using a paper planner. Something I do think about.
  3. Also, it takes up much less room as everything is on the I Pad.

I recently discovered using Keynote app along with Goodnotes app to create my own digital planner.  It is currently still in the works but I am getting closer.  I hope to design a digital planner that I can offer in Etsy later this year. This process has a huge learning curve.

Which type of planner do you use?  Paper or Digital?

Which do you find easier to use?

Creative Outlet or Functional Planner

Creative Outlet or Functional Planner

I’ve thought about this from time to time.  When perusing Instagram I really enjoy seeing how everyone uses their planners.  Some like to festoon the pages with a lot of stickers.  Some are more frugal with them and use the space for planning.  I’m one of the later.  I need to use as much space as I can to plan out my week.  I do use some stickers, but I don’t go crazy with them.  For me, my Happy Planner is for functional use.  I plan many things during my week from tasks that need to get done to appointments.

I like having my tasks and appointments on my planner because, well, my memory isn’t what it used to be.  I admit I also use my google calendar a lot – a lot!  It along with my paper planner is what keeps me organized.  I’ve noticed since combining the two I seem to get more done. I’m getting to check off more items from my to-do lists.

But I will always love my Happy Planner.  It does give me a creative outlet and I like being able to look back and see what I’ve done.

If you’re on the creative outlet side, I admire you.  I’m very impressed with some that I see on Instagram.  But it just doesn’t work for me.

So, all this being said, go with what works for you.  Regardless of what planner you use, don’t let it sit idle.  Getting organized is difficult.  At least it is for me.  But using a planner makes it easier.  And you feel so good when you can check off that item on your list.

Happy Planner and RongRong Collaboration

Have you discovered the new Happy Planner collection that is in collaboration with RongRong Devoe?  I have and I love it.  The graphics are beyond cute.  Only problem is that it doesn’t start until July.  But I just keep it where I can see it and glance it’s way.  RongRong Devoe is an artist that does fantastic illustrations geared towards fashion.  Thankfully, she agreed to this collaboration.

The choices in this collection are vast.  These are available at Joanns and the Me and My Big Ideas website.  I’m sure they will turn up other places as well.

Here’s just some of them that I found and plan to start using next month.

First up is the planner itself.  This one is an 18 month planner, so thankfully it starts in July and runs until the end of next year 2020.

Aren’t they adorable?  These girls show up throughout the planner and the collection as well.  Here are just a couple of glimpses as to what’s inside.

I also found sticker books as well.  Can’t plan without plenty of stickers.  And to find stickers that match the collection is great.

I really love these seasonal ones.  Very cute!  I like using seasonal stickers because it personalizes the pages more.

These everyday stickers are very useful.  It helps in keeping track of the day to day things that need to get done.

Every girl needs a classy notebook.  Another set of stickers called Accessory book.  It has a lot of cute stickers of the fashion girls.  This one will be a lot of fun to use.  Then a small sticker book for use in my weekly spreads.

Finally, a few more accessories to round out my collection.  A pencil pouch covered in the cute fashion girls.  A set of dashboards and a notepad.

This is just a portion of what’s available in this collection.  I think it’s one of the cutest ones they’ve had in a while.  Hope you enjoyed a glimpse of what’s available in the Happy Planner/RongRong collection.

How I Setup My Happy Planner

I haven’t done a blog post in a very long time.  But now I’m back and I’m going to do my best to post on a more frequent basis.

That being said, I want to show you how I use my Happy Planner.  To set it up on a weekly basis I first go to Excel and set up the week with the events I use every week.  It took me quite a while to get the template so it would fit my Happy Planner, but it makes getting the basics done so much easier.  If you’re interested, I will be doing a blog post next week on how I use these files.  I will also be linking those files for you.

But for now, I want to show you how I use my Happy Planner.  I admittedly don’t decorate it too much.  I like a little flair, but for me my planner is for getting things done.  So I need most of the space for lists and to dos.

On the left side of the planner I put a quote for the week, an image (usually one of the girls from Agenda 52 watercolor girls) and I put a scale so I can keep track of my weight loss.

The top section is used for those tasks that need to be done that day.  This way I can check them off as they’re completed.  As you can see, using the Excel template allows me to already have those tasks that I do every week already printed.  And when setting the template up I try to enter as many tasks as I can think of for the week that need to get done.

On the second tier, I enter the rooms that need to be cleaned that day.  This method of doing one room a day is the best for me.  I envy those people who can take a whole day and clean the entire house.  I’ve tried that but it just doesn’t work for me.  The rest of the room on that tier I use for stickers.  Stickers for inspiration, holidays and etc.

The bottom tier is divided into two sections.  The first is for my workout of the day.  I started back to the gym about three months ago.  Since I am trying to get as healthy as my poor body will let me, I felt I needed to get back.  Besides, I kind of like doing water aerobics.  The second half is for keeping track of my steps.  I use a Fitbit Versa and it helps me keep track of those steps I did for that day.  I try to get in at least 8,000 steps a day.  It sounds daunting, but you would be surprised just how many steps you do in a day.

So, my planner is very much a working one.  I love all the planners I see of Instagram that use a lot of stickers on their week.  Some of them are very creative and fun.  But I need as much room as I can get for planning.

Hope you enjoyed this breakdown of how I plan every week.  Please feel free to comment and let me know how you use your planner.

Happy Planning!
